Facts About The Election
To my IBEW Local 83 brothers and sisters:
This is to let you know the problems I had encountered after my nomination for Union President for the IBEW Local 83 on 09/15/08.
- I was given no Election guidelines after my nomination, no information whatsoever.
- I was missed informed when I attempted to obtain the information for my campaign, the information I received was late and not complete. My campaign volunteers were able to obtain more accurate information from the same Union Officer. The same Officer I contacted earlier the same day.
-The campaign information was given to me the same day the ballots were mailed out 10/01/08. That day I was in the Local 83 office doing my own mailing, therefore they had no choice but to provide me with this information.
-No information was given of date, time or place for the preparation of the ballots before they were mailed out. According to the Bylaws of the local Union 83, I was entitle to be there or to have a representative present to witness the event.
-No courtesy call was made to my attention to find out how my name should be entered in the ballots. Per Guide for election officials page 20 a paragraph says: "Candidates should be asked how they would like their names to appear on the ballot". Name recognition is essential on a secret ballot election.
-On 10/07/08 Call Center younger and newer Customer Representatives in Binghamton were approached, intimidated and coerced by a Union Steward, they were asked who they were voting for and also that should not be voting for me. This Union Steward also LIED about the future of the Call Center in New York if I was elected president, creating unnecessary stress and confusion among Union brothers and sisters.
Sincerely
German L. Yanez
